April Showers Bring May Flowers!  Can you feel SPRING in the air?  Here are some spring pics from HBC Secondary!

The Agriculture Science School Garden is taking shape.  The garden is tilled up and the seeds are germinating.  

The Agriculture Science students had a few surprises this week as they study chickens for their poultry unit.  Thank you Bork Farms for allowing our students this educational and fun experience.  

MCAs starting April 13th (NEW)

Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) start next week Tuesday, April 13th.   

Students in grades 6th (reading & math), 7th (reading and math), 8 (reading, math & science), 10 (reading & science) and 11th(math) will be taking the MCA Assessments.  Here is the LINK to the HBC Assessment Calendar and the Important Dates this month.  Please make sure your student is at school on time, well rested and had breakfast.  Encourage your student to do the best they can.  

April 13 & 14th - MCA Reading for Grades 6,7,8 and 10th

April 20 & 21st - MCA Math for Grades 6,7,8 and 11th

April 27th - MCA Science for Grades 8 and 10th

Good luck students!

Students taking the MCAs will be provided with a granola bar and a juice before taking the test.   

 

April 7-10 Is National Library Week! (New)

Spring Sports Seasons Starting (Repeat)

Track Season and Golf Season has officially started!  Please make sure to view the upcoming meets by visiting the HBC Website or HBC App.  

Order HBC Secondary Yearbook - $45 (Repeat)

Don't miss out on the Early Bird Offer and save $5.00!  If you order by March 19, you will get your yearbook for $40.00 (plus tax), after March 19, the price will go up to $45.00 (plus tax).  The yearbook staff has been working hard to complete this year's book.  It will be a yearbook like you have never seen before!  We are excited for the results and to share it with you!  Return this order form with the correct amount (please include the tax in your payment) by March 19 to save $5.00!  Order forms are in the commons and office.

 Early Dismissals and Important Dates (New)

The following dates are the early dismissals scheduled for April.  HBC Secondary will be dismissed at 12:30 PM on early dismissal days.  The elementary will follow at 12:45 PM. *Early Dismissals are for students who have a failing grade, students who are on the deficiency list and for students who need any extra 1:1 support from their teacher.  

 

 

Wednesday, April 14 - Early Dismissal -

Friday, April 23 - Early Dismissal (No Students due to Professional Development for Teachers)

Thursday, April 29 - Early Dismissal

NEW SIS Phone Number (Repeat)

 Effective immediately, when you receive a phone call or text from the HBC School District you will see a new number associated with the call or text. Please add this number to your contacts--it is the Hills-Beaver Creek Student Information System--833-910-3297.  Thank you!

 

Deficiency Lists for 4th Quarter- (New)

As we emphasize the importance of academics and being well-rounded students, athletes and participants of co-curricular activities, please be reminded that we began our deficiency lists starting for Quarter 3 through Quarter 4.  Students who are failing will be REQUIRED to stay after school during early releases to improve their grades.  Note: There will be NO Early Releases in May, however students may come before school (7:30 - 8:05 AM) or after school (3:05 - 3:30).  

The Deficiency List / Academic Eligibility is located in Section 9 of the Secondary Student Handbook (LINK).  

This slide explains the different levels of deficiencies.  Parents and students will receive an emailed letter notifying them if their student is on the deficiency list.  Please continue to support your student who may be struggling with completing school work.  

Unpredictable Spring Weather and Dressing Appropriately (Repeat)

PLEASE make sure your student is prepared for the colder weather.  Students will be walking to their PE classes which are located at Hugo Goehle Gymnasium which is 6 blocks away if the conditions are NOT slippery or wet.   In most cases, students will walk and need to be dressed for the colder weather.
