H-BC Secondary Families:

Week 3 at HBC Secondary was a successful week.  

Five students were able to attend Rising Educators at SDSU on Monday.  These students were able to hear more about the education career pathway as they start to think about colleges & careers.

HBC Homecoming 2024

Students - Order your Homecoming 2024 Shirts Now!  These shirt will be worn for Wednesday, October 9th - Class Color Day!  Order Now!

For your planning, we will be recognizing Homecoming Week October 7-11. 

Coronation - Monday, October 7th @ 7:00 PM at HBC Secondary New Gymnasium

The Homecoming Parade is scheduled for 11 am on Friday, October 11.  Queens of the Court Homecoming Girls Volleyball game is on Friday, October 11th at 12:30 PM.  Community is welcome to this event, but expect large crowds and standing room only.  

Upcoming College and Career Opportunities for 10th/11th/12th Graders (New)

There are numerous College and Career Ready opportunities for our upperclassmen (10th/11th/12th grades) that are coming up.

  • 10th Graders to Career Expo (Worthington) on Wednesday, September 25th.  All students will go to expo to learn about the numerous careers around the Tri-State Area. 

  • 11th Graders & Select 12th Graders to College Fair (Luverne) on Wednesday, October 2nd in Luverne.   Numerous colleges will be represented at this event. 

Deficiency List starts Tuesday, September 23, 2024

As we emphasize the importance of academics and being well-rounded students, athletes and participants of co-curricular activities, please be reminded that we began our deficiency lists starting for Quarter 1.

The Deficiency List / Academic Eligibility is located in Section 9 of the Secondary Student Handbook.

This slide explains the different levels of deficiencies.  Parents and students will receive an emailed letter notifying them if their student is on the deficiency list.  Please continue to support your student who may be struggling with completing school work.

October 3rd, 2024 - Parent/Teacher Conferences Secondary - Please mark your calendars for Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday, October 3rd from 4:00 - 7:30 PM.  Conferences will look similar to Open House where parents/caregivers can come and meet with their students’ respected teachers during the 3.5 hour time block.  Teachers will be available to discuss students’ progress during this time. It is also recommended to check student(s)’ JMC account to look at academic progress.

Back to school JMC Online Registration--Thanks to all the parents and families that completed their student online registration through JMC.  It is an easy way for the school to collect the necessary information for school enrollment.  If you have not yet completed registration for your student please do so as soon as possible.  Log into www.hbc.onlinejmc.com.  If you receive a message from the school stating all or a portion of your students registration is incomplete, please act promptly!  Call the office with questions 507-673-2541.

AM BUS CHANGES--For morning bus changes please call or text the bus line--make sure to identify your student and the bus number they are riding:  507-962-3240 Ext. 4.

H-BC Secondary Picture Days!-- Tuesday, September 24 & Wednesday, October 30 (retakes)  

SECOND ENTREE PURCHASE: Students in grades K-5 may purchase a second entree with their meal.  The entree is $2.75.  If choosing a second entree, students may pay cash or the family lunch account will be charged. Students MUST write name on Cafeteria Sheet if they want a second entree.

Be Present - Please make Attendance and Getting to Class on Time a PRIORITY!  Students who have perfect attendance & NO tardies will be part of the Doughnut Club for Quarter 1!  

In-School Flu Shot Clinic - Wednesday, October 9, 2024

Flu  Shot Clinic at H-BC:
Sanford Luverne Clinic,  H-BC School District, and the Luverne Area Community Foundation will be offering flu vaccines to all children enrolled in grades K-12.  Sandford will bill your insurance for the flu vaccine if you have coverage. However, through collaboration with the Luverne Area Community Foundation, all out-of-pocket and non-insured costs will be covered for school-aged children.  

The in-school flu immunization clinic is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
To receive the flu shot, the consent forms must be completed and returned to the school by Friday, October 4, 2024.  The form is attached and one was sent home with each student.
