This week in phy. ed. class students will be either playing floor hockey or activities aimed at developing floor hockey skills.
Physical Education Syllabus

The goal of physical education class is to keep the students physically active. The students will be introduced to and involved in a variety of activities and games to promote healthy lifestyles and good sportsmanship. The end result is students will choose ways of staying active to maintain good health.
Grades 3-6
Outdoor games unit: A variety of backyard games that can be played throughout life including: bean bag, bocce ball, croquet, horseshoes, ladder golf, & speedmitton.
Frisbee Unit: Throwing and catching techniques, games of Frisbee golf and Ultimate Frisbee.
Fitness Testing: this will be done at the beginning of the year and at the end of the year. 4-6th 1mile run, pullups, situps, pushups, standing long jump, high jump, and 1 min. jump rope.
Soccer unit: activities to develop skills passing, dribbling, teamwork and games.
Football unit: activities to develop throwing, catching, and kicking skills, ultimate football and flag football games.
Fleeing or tag games unit: capture the flag, pirates cove, touchdown, sharks & seaweed, dogcatchers, snake tag, freeze tag, and other tag games.
Volleyball unit: skills: passing, serving, and setting, games: newcom, volleyball game.
Walking Unit: a fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association, students raise money for the ADA and we spend the week walking during class for the week. Builds endurance
Basketball unit: skill activities (dribbling, ball handling, passing, shooting, layups) games: 3 on 3, around the world, HORSE, lightning, dribble knockout, 5 on 5, and sideline basketball.
Kickball unit: skills: passing, catching, and running, games: run like crazy, mat ball, atomic kickball.
Floor hockey: puck and stick handling skills activities, games.
Scooter unit: relays, team work games, games on scooters, hockey, soccer, basketball.
Broomball unit: skills: passing, stick handling, and teamwork.
Bowling unit: skills: scoring and bowling motion, games: bowling, body bowling, bowling for junk
Jump rope unit: single ropes – different forms and tricks, team ropes, chinese jump rope.
Daytona 500: scooters and mats to make cars.
Swimming lessons: builds endurance, safety awareness around water
Dodgeball unit: skills: throwing, catching and dodgingPatriot ball, trench, ultimate dodgeball, dodgeball.
Parachute: builds arm and upper body muscles,games to go with parachute.
Aerobic workouts: workouts to build endurance and strength
Hackey Sack: hand, eye, and feet coordination, a game enjoyed by many age levels and played almost anywhere.
Softball: throwing, catching and hitting activities, games.
K-2
Fleeing & Tag games: to develop an awareness of rules, coordination and body control, builds strength and endurance.
Fitness Testing: to understand your own physical fitness and way to improve weaknesses.
Stretching & Exercises: to develop the importance of how to stretch and warmup to prevent muscle strains and pulls
Jump ropes: builds cardiovascular endurance, develops core muscles.
Scooters: develops leg and arm muscles, body coordination.
Relays: coordination through different forms of races, develop teamwork.
Parachute: listening skills, working together as one team, builds arm muscles.
Yarnballs: to throwing, catching & fleeing skills used in a variety of games: clean your room, snowball fight, etc. easy to handle throw and catch.
Softball / T-ball: throwing, catching and hitting activities, games.
